Kayla - Singer/Songwriter
Growing up I remember singing along to the cds of country singer Danni Leigh. It seems like only yesterday that I was singing the words to her songs Chain Gang or Honey I do. Many years ago while attending one of her concerts, she spotted me singing and commented on how I was singing every word right along with her. She came off of the stage and let me sing along, from that moment my life changed! As a little girl I always loved to perform, I would write my own stories, perform songs, and act out plays for my family in the living room. However, it wasn't until a family tragedy occurred, that I realized how much music really means to me. I remember feeling so many different feelings and not knowing how to express them and just being afraid to express them. So I sat down in my room, cried my eyes out, and through my tears I wrote my first song that I thought was something really true and meaningful. I started writing songs whenever I could. I began entering singing contests at fairs and talent shows, looking for ways to gain experience and exposure.
Since starting this musical journey I 've had the special pleasure of being able to share the stage with the Penny Mae Dixon band, which was my first live performance with a full band. In August of 2008 I got to share the stage with Nashville recording artist Amy Acklyn and her band at the Walworth County Fair. I had met Amy a year earlier at one of her concerts and really had enjoyed watching her perform and being able to meet with her after her show, a true inspiration. I thank them so much for those exciting opportunities. Since then I have started learning how to play guitar and enjoy that 100%. Music is my way of self expression and I want to be able to reach others through my songs. I look forward to seeing you, God bless. ~ Kayla
